Last December, the ASU Board of Trustees approved a plan to expand both visitor and home side seating, including luxury seating, 500 club seats, Yosef Club and Chancellor's box seating, a new press box and additional training area, locker rooms and a study hall for the athletes. In the end there will be seating for approximately 22,000 fans up from 16,600. |
The school's first stadium was named for R. J. Reynolds executive William Conrad. Conrad Stadium was opened in 1962 with 10,000 seats. In 1978 it was expanded to 18,000 seats. (A later renovation revised that to 16,660.) |
The stadium was renamed in September, 1988 to honor Kidd Brewer who served as head football coach at ASU from 1935–38, with a record of 30–5–3. The current renovation is designed to benefit all of Appalachian's sports programs and to accommodate the increase in fans for the now nationally-recognized Mountaineer Football team. |
