Farmers from Watauga and surrounding counties offer their fresh vegetables and fruits for sale several times each week in the summer. On Thursdays, it's the Blowing Rock farmers' market between the park and the American Legion Hall.

In May, you'll find spring onions and lettuces and plants for your own garden. In June it's beets and cherries and peaches. In July it's just about any vegetable you can imagine and maybe some you can't. As July moves into August it's the classic summer vegetables, tomatoes and corn.

Watauga County residents and visitors have a unique farmers' market environment. In just a 3 or 4 county area there is a significant variation in altitude making an extended growing season for local shoppers. Some vegetables and fruits come in early at the lower elevations while others continue to come in later at the upper elevations.

The Blowing Rock Farmers' Market is held in the late afternoon under the trees in a park-like setting making it a pleasant experience even in a summer as hot as this one. The social setting is as important as the buying and selling as shoppers meet their food providers face to face. Grocery shopping doesn't get any better than this.

The Blowing Rock Farmers' Market starts in May and continues through mid-October:
