The Boone Drug Company is an important part of the history of downtown Boone North Carolina. It was founded by Dr. George Kelly Moose in 1919. The dining room in the back was appropriately named, "Joe's Bald Room", after Boone Drug's fourth co-owner, Joe Miller who was born in a car in front of the store. (Joe Miller is the founder and owner of another very successful Boone NC business "Cheap Joe's Art Stuff".)

Melanie's Food Fantasy, across the street from the Old Farmer's Hardware Store (now the new Shoppes at Farmer's Hardware) offers delicious and big breakfasts, each freshly made. Stuffed French toast, eggs benedict, omelets made to order, organic multigrain pancakes, waffles, fruit, biscuits, gravy and more.

This is not a place to eat when you are in a hurry. Each dish is made fresh when ordered and can take a while to prepare.

The Mountain House has been in business for 32 Years and is a favorite for breakfast with visitors, ASU Alumni and locals. They serve breakfast all day.

"When it comes to bread, the company is of the philosophy that artisan bread should not be “relegated to the sidelines of a meal.” Instead, bread can become the foundation of a meal, with unique recipes adding new flavors to complement every dish.
This particular franchise is based out of central North Carolina, and manager Joey Brown described the baking process. Fresh dough is shipped from High Point in the evening, and bakers work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to ensure the freshest products are available by opening at 6:30 a.m. "
