![]() The Watauga County Farmers Market has started its 37th year and, in recent years, has more than met the challenge of increased demand for local produce grown in a sustainable way. In the summer, these farmers provide us much fresher vegetables and fruits and the chance to look your food grower in the eye and ask questions, get recipes and let them know you appreciate their hard work and great results. ![]() |
![]() If you have every grown your own vegetables you can appreciate the process which leads to the beautiful bunches of lettuce, onions, radishes and much more. If you have ever grown a variety of vegetables "from seed" you appreciate it even more.

![]() Many of the farmers at the market are also selling their produce right at their farms with farm stands or through CSAs, Community Supported Agriculture co-ops, where members buy "shares" of the farmers' annual output. Members receive seasonal produce from the farm weekly. They may pick this up at the farm or the Farmers' Market.

![]() You can look at a trip to the Farmers' Market as a way to support the local farmers. But as we are quickly learning, local farmers are supporting us. They provide much fresher (therefore more nutritious) foods which are seasonal in our area and they educate us about where real food comes from. It is a great place for children and adults to become a part of our community. ![]() |
