Watauga County / Boone Farmers' Market

October, 2007

According to their website:

"The Watauga County Farmers' Market has been in operation since 1974, and is located at at the Horn In The West in Boone, North Carolina. The market is a direct link between our local farmers and the consumer. Local support for farming allows increased awareness of good land practices, preservation of rural landscapes and lifestyles, and the minimal use of pesticides. The members of the farmers' market are proud of the high quality products we sell. We hope you will enjoy coming to the market as much as we do!"

The Boone Farmers Market has grown from a quiet Saturday morning event to a first-come-first-served "get there early to get a parking space" big event on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

The market is on the grounds of Horn in the West Theater and Hickory Ridge Homestead Museum. Recently, there have been discussions about adding the Appalachian Cultural Museum to this "complex." This popular museum was closed in 2006 by Appalachian State University leaders much to the dismay of many in the Boone community.
