The first annual Daniel Boone Days events were held September 4-6 throughout downtown Boone. The events were organized by the High Country Press and Mountain Fountain Productions.

On Thursday the High Country Press sponsored an open house that included historical exhibits and live music. On Friday, Daniel Boone biographer, Robert Morgan (see photo above) and other Daniel Boone researchers led a symposium at ASU’s Valborg Theater. On Friday night, Gamekeeper Restaurant and Casa Rustica hosted Fess Parker Wine dinners. Fess Parker, the actor who played Daniel Boone on the tv show, now owns a winery.

On Saturday, the Daniel Boone Chase Foot Race up Howard's Knob and back started at 8 a.m. At 11:00 there was an attempt at a world record for "the largest gathering of people dressed as Daniel Boone" in the Mast Store parking lot. The festival then moved to Horn in the West for a day of music, storytelling, crafts, food and dancing.
