![]() Tweetsie came from Johnson City TN, down through Roan Mountain, over to Elk Park and Cranberry NC, through Newland and Pineola and then to Linville. It ended in Boone. These towns and other small towns in between were heavily logging timber, mining minerals and became convenient locations for grain mills to ship their flours to markets outside the area. The mill was built in 1934. The store and mill have been recently featured in Elizabeth Wiegand's new cookbook, "The New Blue Ridge Cookbook." (Learn more at left.)

![]() Today the Old Hampton Store and Grist Mill are better known for their barbeque (see reviews in the links below) and their annual Cornbread Cookoff. (June 25). Their barbeque sandwiches are served on sourdough rolls and many customers return to the Linville area just to eat one of those sandwiches (or two.) ![]() |
![]() 87 Ruffin Street Arts and Crafts gallery is next door to the Old Hampton Store. The gallery offers a wide variety of some of the best fine and traditional crafts of the region. It is featured on the Avery County Tour de Art, the fourth Saturdays of the months through October. ![]() |
