The 29th Annual 2007 Valle Country Fair

The Valle Country Fair always takes place on the third Saturday of October, the same day as the Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk. For many visitors, this is the traditional "peak" fall weekend in the North Carolina Mountains.

The fair takes place on the grounds of the Valle Crucis Conference Center on Highway 194 in Valle Crucis North Carolina. The hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but many visitors arrive much earlier ad some stay later.

The event was started 29 years ago by the Holy Cross Episcopal Church to raise money for its facilities. Today it raises money for many local charities. In 2006, they raised over $40,000.

Local charities helped include The Children's Council of Watauga County, Western Youth Network, Hunger & Health Coalition, Watauga Humane Society, W. A. M. Y. Community Action, Watauga Country Health Department Child Service Coordination Program and the Parent to Parent Family Support Network.

Crafts vendors are chosen through a jury system. The organizers choose a wide variety of arts and crafts for maximum appeal to visitors.

There are musical and dance performances throughout the day on two stages. Performers include local clogging groups and bands with a variety of musical styles.

Of prime importance to many Valle Country Fair visitors is the food! This North Carolina Mountain fair is famous for its Brunswick stew and carrot cake. This years' large attendance caused some vendors to sell out of crowd favorites.

The Valle Country Fair is a must-attend annual event for many local citizens and visitors to the North Carolina Mountains.
