The highlight of the festival was the return of Doc Watson. He told the crowd that he had not played for 3 months but his voice was strong and his guitar-picking electrified the crowd. At times he sat with the audience and chatted with admirers. |
The Carolina Chocolate Drops brought their Carolina Stringband music to the festival for the second year. They have quickly become crowd favorites. They are preserving the nearly lost music of Carolina Stringband performers and have been hailed by Taj Mahal for their outstanding work. |
The Steep Canyon Rangers were warmly welcomed back to the festival. This group has gained a national reputation for first-class bluegrass music, most of which has been written by members of the band. |
The Kruger Brothers are as much a part of Music Fest 'n Sugar Grove as Doc Watson. This trio shows their love for the Carolina Mountains through their music. |
The new "kids" on the block this year were, well, kids. The Snyder Family Band features 13 year old Zeb on guitar and 10 year old Samantha on fiddle. Their performance earned the group 2 standing ovations. Zeb and Samantha more than held their own in the Saturday night JamFest. |
Dave Haney and Lisa Baldwin are perennial favorites at Sugar Grove. Dave, an assistant Provost at ASU and Lisa, a teacher who uses music to help children learn, were treated to a famous audience member when Doc Watson sat down on the front row to listen to them. |
Becca Eggers-Gryder from the local family of lawyers, leads Amantha Mill, whose members also include a Certified Financial Planner. Their music is first rate and they never fail to delight the audience at Sugar Grove. Becca is shown here singing with Andy Owens. |
